Official (ISC)² Programs
The University of Tulsa is Oklahoma's only Official (ISC)² affiliate and Oklahoma's only
official CISSP Examination source.
TU's Center for Information Security faculty and staff now offer CISSP seminars in both Tulsa and
Oklahoma City. Review Seminar instructors are highly credentialed and experienced in the field
of information security, preparing candidates for (ISC)² rigorous examinations. Instructors
Hale, Manes and Greer provide theoretical, technical and real world experience across all areas of
information security.
(ISC)² affiliates assist security professionals and practitioners in obtaining the CISSP, the
"Gold Standard" in Information Security certification. The International Information Systems Security
Certification Consortium, or (ISC)² , is the internationally recognized Gold Standard for educating
and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers. (ISC)² has certified over 42,000
information security professionals in more than 110 countries.
TU is an official affiliate of (ISC)², a designation recognizing it's superior level of competence in
the field of Information Security. Affiliates' course material reflects the most recent CBK used on
the examination.

The CISSP credential is ideal for mid- and senior-level managers who are
working toward or have already attained positions as CISOs, CSOs or Senior
Security Engineers.
Per DoD 8570.01-M, December 19, 2005 - The CISSP is a requirement for federal government
employees and government contractors.
Instructors:
John Hale, Ph.D.
Dr. John Hale is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Center for
Information Security at the University of Tulsa. Dr. Hale has significant expertise in
computer security, distributed systems and formal methods. He has published approximately
refereed articles and one book, Research Advances in Database and Information Systems Security,
Kluwer (2000). Dr. Hale is a member of the IFIP Working Group 11.3 on Database Security and
served as Program Co-Chair for its 1999 International Conference. His research sponsored by
the NSA and NSF explores the role of operating systems, programming languages and virtual machines
in providing secure computation and communication environments.
Gavin W. Manes, Ph.D.
Dr. Gavin W. Manes brings extensive knowledge in the field of digital forensics to his position as
president of Oklahoma Digital Forensics Professionals Inc. Manes received his doctorate in computer
science from the University of Tulsa, where he now works as research assistant professor. Since 1996,
Manes has specialized in the fields of information assurance, computer security, and digital forensics
at the Center for Information Security at TU. He has briefed the White House, National Security
Council, and the Pentagon in his areas of expertise. In addition, he has earned all five National
Information Assurance Education and Training Program federal information assurance certifications from
the Committee on National Security Systems and the National Security Telecommunications and Information
Systems Security Instruction.
David Greer
David Greer is a Ph.D student at the University of Tulsa at the Center for Information Security.
His current research interests include digital forensics, information assurance education, and
cyber law. Mr. Greer most recently was the information security specialist at the Oklahoma
Department of Career and Technology Education.
